.....The Phase I Burn Ban
is still in effect for Kitsap County, and unlikely to change
between now and the end of September Crown (according to the latest
from the Kitsap Fire Marshal's Office). What a Phase I Burn Ban
means:
.....Under a Phase I Outdoor Burning Ban, no outdoor burning is
allowed except for cooking fires in contained cooking units or
designated areas and recreational fires. A "recreational" fire is
defined as follows:
· Built in a designated fire pit space,
· No larger than three feet in diameter,
· Containing seasoned firewood or charcoal briquettes
only,
· Located in a space well clear of vegetation, and at least
25 feet from buildings, fences, or anything that might burn,
· Attended at all times by an alert adult with immediate
access to a shovel and a water source.
.....Outdoor burning is the most common cause of wildfires. The
potential for dangerous fire spread is increasing as vegetation
moisture content is decreasing due to a prolonged spell of warm and
dry weather. Local fire districts are reporting an increase in the
number and severity of brush fires due to the dry weather
conditions.
.....Tiki torches (and equivalent) and candles within containers
(i.e. lanterns) are acceptable for use. However, they must always
be attended by an alert and sober adult.
.....Weather for the end of this week and weekend looks pretty good
(according to NOAA):
Thursday Cloudy, then gradually becoming mostly sunny, with a high
near 68. Light and variable wind.
Thursday Night Mostly cloudy, with a low around 49. North northeast
wind around 7 mph.
Friday Partly sunny, with a high near 68. Calm wind.
Friday Night Partly cloudy, with a low around 52.
Saturday Partly sunny, with a high near 72.
Saturday Night Partly cloudy, with a low around 47.
Sunday Partly sunny, with a high near 70.
Sunday Night Partly cloudy, with a low around 47.
Labor Day Partly sunny, with a high near 68.
.....With that said, please remember to pack your sunscreen and
ensure you have plans in place to keep yourself hydrated. It may be
warm during the day, but will be somewhat chilly at night. So
please plan accordingly (bring clothing that can be worn in
layers).
.....Please let me know if you have any questions.
.....Thank you, Arontius.
.....Chairman, Team Haggis III.

Full Contact Unbelted
Artisans’ Geek Out!
Sponsored by the Laurels and
Apprentices of Dragon’s Laire
Are you an unbelted artisan (not in a
relationship with aLaurel)?
Then bring your project to the Full Contact Unbelted
Artisans’ Geek Out at September Crown! This is a time for you to show
your stuff to other artisans, a chance to share, to get to know
others who have your same interests, to show people just what the
independent artisans of An Tir are capable of!
Only those artisans not in a relationship with
aLaurelshould bring their projects to this
event. Bring your
project in any stage, completed or not, with or without
documentation, and be prepared to tell us all about
it.
Laurels and apprentices of the
Kingdom of An Tir…this is your opportunity to encourage the
independent artisans in your area to come out and meet and mingle
with those of like minds. This Arts & Science
gathering is designed to nurture the talents in An
Tir
Unbelted artisans who are
interested in displaying/demoing at this Geek Out should contact
Dame Gwen the Potter,gwen@dragonfirepottery.com,
to reserve a space, and to let us now what you are bringing, and
how much space you will need. Artisans need to bring their own
table/workspace/chair, and be prepared to stay with their
work.
The Geek-out will last for two
hours, and the time and day will be posted later, when the Crown
schedule is approved.
Refreshments will be provided by
Laurels, Apprentices and Artisans of Dragon’s
Laire.
**********************
Artisans Open Display and
Demo
There will be a short (2 to 3
hour) Arts and Sciences Display and Demonstration at September
Crown in Dragon's Laire. It will run on an entirely
different day that the Unbelted Geek Out, in case you would like to
participate in both.
The A&S Display and Demonstration is open to all, laurels,
apprentii, unbelted artisans, etc. Please come and show off your
talents to all of us!
Some
guidelines:
1.
The project must be substantially finished.
2.
You must remain with your project for most of the display/
demonstration. The
display/demonstration will run for only two hours or so, making
staying with your project pretty easy.
3.
Documentation is greatly encouraged, but not required. We want to see what you are
doing! Come and show
us!
4.
Please bring a chair/table and whatever you need for your
display.
Time and Place will be announced
as we get closer to the event. As mentioned above, this will
not conflict with the Geek Out (or the Laurels'
meeting). To
reserve a space, contact HL Aelianora atrgiles@centurytel.net.
*****************
Weekend-long Large Arts &
Sciences Demo
Is
two hours of demo not enough for you? Do you have the desire to demo
all or part of the weekend? Then considered bringing your
tent and setting up around the Arts & Sciences area for a mini
“Artisan’s Village”. You don’t have to demo
continuously (since we all know Crown events are very busy), but
here is a chance to really share your love of the arts and
sciences. If you are
interested, contact HL Madrun for more details and to reserve a
spot,caldera@olympus.net.

one or both of the good ladies above. We will endeavor to find a
teacher for you.
Class schedule will be announced
once we have a firm offering of classes.
Note: All classes require
pre-registration.
This does not mean payment, it just means you must register with
one or both of the good ladies above so that teachers can prepare
their supplies beforehand.If the class
does require payment, please pay the teacher directly, at the
event.
Greetings from Madame Jacqueline de Lioncourt, Minister of Family
Activities! I will have lots of fun classes for families at
Crown! You can choose to take these classes or play with
blocks/color. I also have rules/instructions for period
games/activities and some packets of projects which you can take to
your own camp. Please make plans now to be responsible for
your children and remember that ALL children under the age of 18
must be supervised. This means that parents/guardians and
teens must communicate regarding their location/actions.
Children under the age of 12 must be supervised within sight and/or
sound. Please join us at Crown, bring your children, and help
them share your joy of the SCA by inviting them to participate with

.....September Crown begins THIS WEEK. The Barony of Dragon's
Laire, Team Haggis III, and the Western Region of An Tir welcome
all to the September Crown Tournament where the heirs to Wondrous
King Vik and Beauteous Queen Astrid, King and Queen of An Tir, will
be decided in combat. Also decided over the weekend will be the
person who will carry the mantle as Equestrian Champion of the
Mighty Kingdom of An Tir.
.....As Chairman and Event Steward for September Crown, 2012, I am
sending information on a weekly basis to help in your planning
efforts, update you with new information, and answer questions that
are frequently being asked.
.....The September Crown main web-site area can be found here:
<http://www.dragonslaire.org/events/sept_crown.php>. This is
where the majority of information on the event can be found at any
given time. Updates are loaded as quickly as possible. Check back
often. The Kingdom Calendar Web-Page for September Crown also
carries a slightly abridged version of information for the event,
and it can be found here,
<http://www.antir.sca.org/Upcoming/?Event_ID=2496>.
.....The site for September Crown will be a first time use for us
as an event site. As we map out camping and activities, we are
finding that the site might be somewhat tight, for both parking and
camping. We will be asking people to tighten their space as they
set up on Friday. Your neighbors will be close. Carpooling is
encouraged.
.....Don't forget that the site is essentially a three part
terraced grassland. Which means walking distances if you are
mobility impaired. The roads from terrace to terrace are hard
packed gravel, with an even grade (not too steep). But walking
distances will be involved. Please be prepared. The hillsides from
terrace to terrace are easy to manage for many (think the main hill
at June Faire in Port Gamble). The fields themselves have been
recently mowed (within the past two weeks). There are still areas
with a little loose grass, but not much. Some camping areas have
some rough ground, but all appears to be workable from the
standpoint of camp creation.
.....The fee structure for September Crown is as follows: Adults:
$15; Youth (6-17): $7; Family Cap (modernly related): $44;
Non-Member Surcharge of $5 applies.
.....The site will open at Noon on Friday, August 31st. Remember
that you must still stop at gate, even if you have pre-registered
for the event. The Equestrian Waiver must be signed before you can
gain entrance to the event, as there will be horses on site,
possibly even as part of Court.
.....September Crown is a large and complex event for any group to
undertake. The Barony of Dragon's Laire urgently requests the help
of any and all who will be in attendance. That help will be
sincerely appreciated! Please contact our Volunteer Coordinator,
M'Lord Emil at <4baddog@gmail.com> and he will ensure your
volunteer hours are recorded as to what day, what time and what
activity you will be supporting with your time and efforts.
.....At this time we are looking for the following help as
well:
.....* Assistance with laying the camping grid on Thursday and
placing campers into said grid on Friday. The Camping Coordinator
is THL Elisabeth Trostin, who can be reached at
<campingindl@gmail.com>.
.....* Gate Support, spearheaded by Lady Aileen, who can be reached
at <scbabic@yahoo.com>.
.....* Martiallate Lists needs help. Please contact our Lists
Mistress, Lady Ceara, at <purpledragon0279@yahoo.com>.
.....* Parking Coordination, headed by THL Theodoric the Scholar,
who can be reached at <fairwater@gmail.com>.
.....* Voice Heralds, headed by THL Ian MacKynnes, who can be
reached at <heralde@comcast.net>.
.....At this time the Kitsap County Fire Marshal still has the site
as part of a Phase I Outdoor Burning Ban. Under a Phase I Outdoor
Burning Ban, no outdoor burning is allowed except for cooking fires
in contained cooking units or designated areas and recreational
fires. A "recreational" fire is defined as follows: Built in a
designated fire pit space; No larger than three feet in diameter;
Containing seasoned firewood or charcoal briquettes only; Located
in a space well clear of vegetation, and at least 25 feet from
buildings, fences, or anything that might burn; and is attended at
all times by an alert adult with immediate access to a shovel and a
water source.
.....For those traveling from the North or from the Bremerton
Ferry, especially for those traveling late at night, there is some
road construction of which to be aware: SR 3/ SR 16 Paving Repair
Project. This project improves pavement on SR 16 in Pierce and
Kitsap counties and SR 3 near Gorst and Bremerton. EXPECT:
Single-lane closures from milepost 25 to 29 on westbound SR 16 and
milepost 34 to 36 on northbound SR 3. Motorists can also expect
ramp closures in project area from 10 p.m. to 5 a.m.
.....For those staying in an RV for the event: Especially because
of the close quarters, and as spelled out in County Ordinance,
there will be no generator use allowed between the hours of 10PM
through 7AM. If you have extenuating circumstances that force
overnight use, please contact our RV Coordinator, Master Ralg, at
n7bsn@amsat.org, so that he can make alternate arrangements for
your RV as possible.
.....We look forward to seeing you in the Mighty Barony of Dragon's
Laire. Please do not hesitate to contact me if you should happen to
have any questions.
.....Many Thanks, Arontius of Bygelswade.

Site Info: Name: NORSELAND - BREMERTON MOTORSPORTS PARK 8651 STATE HIGHWAY 3 PORT ORCHARD, WA 98367
Directions to Site:
Make your best way to to the Bremerton National Airport on Route
3. At the stoplight, take the turn going north (towards the Kitsap
County Landfill), on to Imperial Way. Immediately take that first
left on to Sentinel Peak Way. The Northrup-Grummond Building will
be on your right and a Pea Patch garden area on your left. Travel
the hundred or so feet to the end of that road and you'll be
there.
Note that the above Weather and Map information is generated from the site address and can be easily confused. The weather will say if its for the branch or for the site. It will be for the site if the site can be found, but this again is not always the case, and if the site is some distance from the branch then the weather may be different.
