New Branch Requirements

The Requirements for Establishment
of a Shire, Canton or College
- At least 5 subscribing
members
- At least 3 officers,
including a Seneschal, Exchequer and either a Marshal or a
Minister of Arts and Sciences. A Marshal is mandatory if Martial activates
will
take place.
- Consensus among members
in the area favoring establishment of the proposed
branch.
Incipiency Paperwork
Required Paperwork (in triplicate mailed to Kingdom New Branches Deputy)
Proposed Incipient Branch must submit
- A letter from an established
branch, in good standing with the kingdom, stating it
will act as sponsor. *
- A letter of petition
from the members of the proposed branch. Format should be
SCA Name, modern name, zip code , and SCA membership number. Nonmembers
should be listed as well.
- A list of zip/postal
codes clamed.
- A map of the area claimed.
- If the proposed branch
is within area clamed by another branch, a letter form the
established branch seneschal making clear that the branch is giving up the
area
and the zip/postal codes.
- A completed new branch
application form.
- Copies of the proposed
branch officers membership cards with Driver’s Licenses
or equivalent ID.

A completed
Job Acceptance/Change of Officer form for each Officer.
*Sponsoring Branch must submit:
The Branch Seneschal must write a letter declaring their support of the Incipient
Branch. The Sponsoring Branch officers must acknowledge their responsibility
to
train their incipient Branch officer counterparts which includes accepting
quarterly
reports from them and in some cases commenting of the reports for training
purposes.
Once the New Branch Deputy receives the paperwork, he/she will discuss the
proposed incipiency for the branch with the Kingdom Seneschal. If the Kingdom
Seneschal approves, the New Branch Deputy will notify the group they have
been
accepted as an Incipient Branch of the Kingdom of An Tir.
For Full Branch Status
For Full Status Paperwork:

* The Sponsoring
Branch
- Seneschal writes a
clear statement that you believe they are ready to be on their own,
- a concurrence that
their officers are performing their jobs correctly and reporting
routinely (quarterly and Domesday), [Incipients report to Kingdom Seneschal
Reporting Deputy, correlating sponsoring branch officers, Baron/ess (if applicable),
patron/ess (if applicable),and Kingdom Seneschal Deputy for New Branches],
- that their Exchequer
is well-versed and capable of running their funds,
- they have regular routine
business meetings,
- their required officer
positions have depth (i.e., ideally each position should have a
Contingency Deputy)
- they are capable of
running at least one event a year on their own.
