The purpose of the Guild is to provide a forum for the exchange of information about
spinning and other fibre arts, to encourage awareness and knowledge of spinning, and to
challenge spinners to excel at their craft, within the context of the Society for Creative
Anachronism.
There is an email list for the discussion of spinning, weaving, knitting and any other fibre
related questions the list members may have.
To subscribe to this list, please see the Lists page.
The Guild founder, and list mediator, is
Nan Compton mka Bess Mullaney; she can be reached at
e.mullaney@ucalgary.ca.
Any administrative questions regarding the Guild or its functions may be addressed to her.
Although the list was originally founded to give spinners in An Tir who have access to email
a way of contacting each other, the mandate has evolved include the discussion of any fibre
related matter, including 'how to' questions, shop or book recommendations,
announcements, or general historical questions. The membership is not limited to members of
the SCA and welcomes participation from anyone who is interested in fibre work. Below are
links to a brief overview of the history of spinning, a short bibliography of books about
spinning and historical knitting, a glossary of terms, and a list of some useful sources for
materials (which in no way is an endorsement of any of them).
